Who it's for
First-line managers in their first two years of managing people, and middle managers who have never rehearsed the conversations, the calls and the conflicts the role puts in front of them.
Output
- A scored report after every room, with the moment that earned each score and one recommended focus
- The real conversation, the real no and the real case to their boss rehearsed before they happen, with the opening rewritten and kept
- A trajectory across every attempt, and for the line manager a Ren summary of each manager and a team report
- Scored against published frameworks: high-stakes dialogue, care and challenge, clear communication, conversation layers, disciplined prioritisation, conflict-mode flexibility, Cohen and Bradford's influence without authority, Cost of Delay, Rest's four-component model, bounded ethicality, readiness-matched leadership style and adaptive leadership

The rooms
Difficult Conversation
Simulation
Calibration: the manager's role and seniority, the kind of conversation, who it is with, and what is at stake.
Saying No Simulation
Simulation

Performance Conversation
Simulation
Calibration: role title, the situation type (coaching a high performer, underperformance, a formal improvement plan or an exit conversation), industry or sector and a line of working context.
Team Conflict
Simulation
Calibration: role title, the role relationship (peer, new manager or experienced manager), industry or sector and a line of working context.
Managing Up
Simulation
Calibration: role title, the power gap (peer-level senior, one-up, two-up or C-suite), industry or sector and a line of working context.
Prioritisation Pressure
Simulation
Calibration: role title, the role (individual contributor, team lead, senior manager or executive), industry or sector and a line of working context.
Ethics Test
Simulation
Calibration: role title, role power (individual contributor, manager or senior leader), industry or sector and a line of working context.
Leadership Simulation
Simulation
Calibration: role title and leadership level (team lead, manager, senior manager, director, C-suite or founder), industry or sector, and team or organisation size.
Why this program exists
A new manager gets, in the same fortnight, a resignation, a missed deadline, two people who will not work together and a request from above that the team cannot deliver. Each moment is met on instinct, in front of the people who report to them. This program prepares them through simulation. Ren builds each scene from the manager's real role, level, sector and team, and plays every person in it, so every room is new and moves with each decision.
What you'll achieve
- Rehearsal of the eight moments the role puts in front of a manager, as often as they want them: the hard conversation, the no, the performance message, the conflict, the case to their boss, the urgent hour, the grey area, and the scenario that tests how they lead
- A scored report after every room: each dimension with the moment that earned its score, strengths, development areas, blind spots where the evidence shows them, and one recommended focus
- Unlimited attempts at every room, each a different scene calibrated to their current level, scored on the same dimensions and charted against every attempt before it, for as long as they manage people
At a glance
- Who it's for
- First-line managers in their first two years of managing people, and middle managers who have never had structured practice at the conversations, the calls and the conflicts the role brings. It is assigned by their line manager, an HR or L&D lead or a facilitator; the **Manager** lines in this guide are written for whoever that is. Every room calibrates to role, level and sector, so one cohort can hold a team lead in their first month and a head of department with forty people.

Session by session
1
Week 1: Hard conversations · Setting boundaries
Establish how the manager opens and holds the conversation they least want to have, and whether they can decline a request with a reason and an alternative.
2
Week 2: Performance clarity · Resolving team conflict
Deliver a performance message that cannot be misheard and leave with a path forward the report owns
3
Week 3: Upward challenge · Triage under pressure
Push back on their own boss with evidence the boss will accept, and come out with an outcome
4
Week 4: Holding the line · Leading under pressure
Notice the ethical question inside an ordinary request, and know what holding the line costs a manager the team is watching
